How to Apply

To apply to the New Directions Sabbatical, please provide:
  1. A completed New Directions Sabbatical Application (PDF: 40 K)
  2. Non-refundable application fee of U.S. $50.00
  3. Official certification of your most recently completed academic degree program if you plan to audit courses. Official transcripts of your most recently completed academic degree program if you plan to take classes for credit.
  4. Two letters of recommendation from persons who know you well. The letters should give an opinion of your academic and personal qualifications for the sabbatical program.
  5. A 750-1,000 word autobiographical sketch emphasizing your personal development, and including why you see the New Directions program as helpful for you and your future ministry.

Although applications for admission are accepted on a rolling admissions basis, applicants to the New Directions program are urged to have their application materials to the Office of Admissions one month prior to the beginning of the academic term in which they plan to enroll, as classes typically fill quickly.

Each year, New Directions participants begin with a directed retreat at the El Retiro Retreat House in Los Altos, California. El Retiro has acres of lovely grounds for walking and sits atop a hill with beautiful vistas of the area.
